St. Philip Wins Inaugural Barbados Community Cricket Block T-20 Competition

St Philip are the winners of the inaugural Barbados Community Cricket Block T-20 Competition for under-25 players. They defeated St Michael by seven wickets on Friday night at the Gall Hill playing field in St John, to secure the victory in the tournament sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.

Batting first, St Michael racked up 157 for seven in their 20 overs at the crease, with Antoine Darlington leading the way with 38 runs, whilst captain Joshua Morris scored 34. Fast bowler Steffaun Griffith was the mainstay of the bowling for the St Philip team, as he grabbed two wickets for 21 runs off his four overs.

Khomari Griffith, two for 34 and Naje Bishop two for 49, were also among the wickets.

In reply St Philip knocked off the runs only losing three wickets in the process to seal the victory by seven wickets, with spinner Shamar Marshall grabbing two wickets for 20 runs for St Michael.

Kevion Newton led the way for St Philip with an unbeaten 62, ably assisted by a classy 43 from Tennyson Roach Junior, whilst captain Naje Bishop hit a cameo,  knocking up 24 runs off ten balls.

St Philip collected 10 thousand dollars for the victory along with the winners’ trophy, which were presented by the Honourable Charles Griffith, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and Member of Parliament for St John.

Second placed St Michael, copped 5000 dollars for their effort and they collected the cheque from Emerson Bascombe, Deputy Director of Sports at the National Sports Council. St Lucy finished in third place walking away with 2000 dollars in the process. The northern parish also had the honour of producing the competition’s Most Valuable Player(MVP) Shamario Depeiza,  who was the leading run scorer with 273 runs, whilst bagging 13 wickets.
