However, when Greaves went ahead at 21-20 he never relinquished the lead afterwards, displaying gritty determination to secure the win at 22-20. Daniel, however, roared right back to win the second game also within 14 minutes, as he led 20-12 at one stage before closing out the game for the victory at 21-17 to set up a third and decisive game.
That game ebbed and flowed to be tied at 9-9, before Greaves went ahead
10-9. After that even though Daniel battled valiantly, Greaves never again relinquished the lead to hold on for the win and secure the victory over Daniel at 21-17. In the end Greaves had struck a note for the younger generation outbattling Daniel after 41 minutes of enthralling road tennis to secure the win at 22-20, 17-21, 21-17.
Shawn Spencer was ruthless on the night, as he dismissed Leon Carter in straight sets 21-7, 21-7, whilst Davien ‘Force Ripe’ Taylor was too strong for Stephen Joseph as he too won in straight sets, 21-12, 21-14. Antonio Yearwood was workmanlike in defeating Daniel King in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18.
The ladies got the action started with Juliet Worrell defeating Andisha Howell 21-16, 14-21, 21-19 in an entertaining display of tennis. There was more excitement as Asabi Downey battled Sharon Small. Downey lost the first game 15-21, but she took the next two at 21-16, 21-16.
